SKY'S THE LIMIT
Marc Weinberg

Marc Weinberg says the title of his show, “Sky’s The Limit,” can mean many things. The online site Phrase Finder defines it as “There is no apparent limit” and puts its origins at a time of optimism and progress in the USA just before World War I.

For Weinberg, the phrase has figurative and concrete meanings. It describes how he views and photographs the world. His images reflect a rekindled appreciation for life, the people around him, and his place between the earth and above, all honed by a recent confrontation with the hereafter. The images also signal a return of his inner child’s fascination with the ever-changing sky, its moods, colors, shapes, and stories.  Weinberg’s images explore the beauty around us in Central Maryland and capture the breathtaking expanses of Down East Maine’s Castine and Deer Isle locales.

Weinberg has been in love with photography since he picked up his first camera at age eight, back in 1956. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, has a B.A. from Ohio State University, a law degree from the University of Toledo, and an LLM from Georgetown Law Center. In 2008, he retired from the Federal government and became free to pursue his first love. He teaches photography at Frederick Community College and has a studio at The Blue Elephant in Frederick. [ bit ] PUSH : GHOSTS IN THE CODE
Brady Wilks

Brady Wilks’ new show is titled “[ bit ] PUSH : Ghosts in the Code,” and it deals with lost identity, lost data, corrupt artifacts, and pushed pixels.  “There is a struggle with finding validity in photographic art,” Wilks says.  “There is this sentiment that I must craft the art by hand and not rely on popular and convenient digital imaging.

“I normally rely on historical and alternative photographic processes to craft handmade art, but in this series I am bending the bits, pushing the pixels and corrupting data,” he says.  “I am the ghost in the code.”

Wilks, who is also an author and educator, is equally at home with photographic processes including wet plate collodion, acrylic gel lifts and transfers, and other pre- and post-photography processes.  He holds a Master of Fine Arts in photography from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and is currently exhibiting, guest lecturing, instructing workshops and writing.

His book, “Alternative Photographic Processes: Evidence of the Photographer’s Hand,” was published by Focal Press in 2015.  See more of his work at www.bradywilks.com.
