Christine Stovall

Painting, Ceramics

Christine Stovall draws her inspiration from travel and her own backyard. Stovall has traveled with her husband, Mike, through England, Ireland, Scotland, South Africa, the countryside of Maine, the rugged West, Eastern Europe, and the beaches of the Outer Banks.  Traveling intensifies Stovall's act of seeing by exposing her to new and ever-changing environments. In her paintings, she is most interested in the complexity of color and unpredictable line in nature, taking her own imaginative liberty.

Stovall is also working with combined driftwood and clay sculptures, and clay sculptures influenced by the shape of a piece of driftwood. She has always been a collector of found objects from the beach. Shells, driftwood, rocks, feathers. This process produces people, horses, and sea creatures.

Today, threats to wildlife and the natural environment have never been greater. Stovall's hope is that her work will help the viewer reflect on the beauty of nature and our place and responsibilities in the world.

Christine Stovall is an alumna of the University of Maryland, Goddard College, and studied at the Corcoran School of Art and Design in Washington, D.C. Stovall began her career as an Art Therapist and later a high school art teacher at Walkersville High School, Maryland. She retired in 2019.  Her work is in collections across the U.S. She has been a member of The Artists Gallery, 501 N. Market Street, Frederick, MD,  since 2006.
