Karen Peacock presents an alternative history in which the region is governed by an elected monarchy. The royalty includes King Frederick and his daughter, Queen Marianne, who gave the state its name. Joining them is Queen Carroll, who oversaw the building of Carroll Creek Linear Park and other major projects.
The artist uses collage, paint, and digital photography to create portraits of the 12 imaginary rulers. The works are presented in a timeline format.
The show opens April 5 with a reception from 5 to 9 on First Saturday, April 6. The first 20 visitors dressed as royalty will receive a free gift. Kids are welcome.
In honor of National Poetry Month, members of Slant Light Poets and Words in Progress will read work inspired by "Monarchs of Mariland" at the gallery. Karen will also hold a free drop-in writing workshop.
