CONTINUUM
In Leslie King’s exhibit, Continuum, her development of the skills needed to “speak” with her distinct artistic voice are highlighted. Each work represents a technical building block, from her exploration of the materials to her study of the human form.
Each piece is a narrative as the busts featured in the exhibit combine King’s experience in theater and mastery of clay surface and form to represent character archetypes – the innocent, the villain, the hero, the everyman and the mentor.
A WOMAN'S WORK: Pat Scull
Pat Scull - The Virologist The Linguist
Featured artist: Pat Scull
A WOMAN'S WORK
In Pat Scull’s exhibit, A Woman’s Work, the artist presents new oil paintings and ceramic sculptures. Each of these new pieces is a portrait of a woman she has encountered. Scull is inspired by the people she meets and the stories they tell. She loves to think about how people are often defined by what they do. These new portraits illuminate the work of each woman she has chosen to portray.
Pat’s new pieces can be observed on several levels. Her imagery comes from an iconography she has developed over the years and through her exploration of different media. The oil paintings refer to women’s work involving the senses such as through sound, touch or visualization. The ceramic sculptures are vessels that are symbolic of something that holds memories of the stories the women have shared. In the end A Woman’s Work presents her work singularly as a woman artist.
